MEET GAYLENE
An Advocate for Lifelong Learning
Meet Gaylene Carragher, M.Ed., B.Ed., MBA
With more than 25 years of experience in post-secondary education, I have dedicated my career to advancing student success and strengthening educational communities. I began at Holland College and have taught for 14 years as a sessional instructor in Organizational Behaviour and Human Resource Management at the University of Prince Edward Island.
In my current role as Director of Retention, Part-Time Studies, and Career Services, I provide leadership in governance, program development, student services, and integrating emerging tools such as AI and social media to enhance learning and engagement. As a parent of three children who have moved through the PEI public school system, I bring both professional expertise and personal perspective to the opportunities and challenges facing students, families, and educators.

I hold an M.Ed., B.Ed., and MBA, along with certificates in conflict resolution, human resource management, and business communications. These credentials and extensive leadership experience have equipped me with a strong foundation in governance, policy development, strategic planning, and fiscal stewardship. Beyond my professional responsibilities, I have contributed to provincial councils, professional associations, and community organizations, including the United Way of PEI, the Atlantic Provinces Association of Communication Teachers, and the PEI Advisory Council on the Status of Women.
My volunteer work, including creating student scholarships, reflects a deep commitment to equity, inclusion, and access to opportunity. I believe in lifelong learning and in ensuring that education is accessible, equitable, and student-centered. My leadership style is collaborative, evidence-informed, and rooted in servant leadership.
As a trustee, I would bring expertise in governance, strategic planning, financial management, and a steadfast commitment to student well-being, achievement, and community representation.
